Frequently Asked Questions

Learn about pediatric dentistry and our services

What makes a pediatric dentist different from a general dentist?

Pediatric dentists specialize in dental care services that children need to ensure proper oral hygiene and health. All dental specialists have several years of additional training after dental school. Pediatric dentists have extensive experience in treating infants, children and adolescents. Our children's dentists cater to your child's individual needs while making them comfortable at our dentist's office.

How often should my child have dental checkups?

For children's dentists, the general rule is 'first visit by the first birthday.' To prevent dental problems and upkeep dental hygiene, your child should visit a pediatric dentist no later than their first birthday.

What should I bring to my child's first appointment?

Your child should not use fluoridated toothpaste before the age of 3 years. Prior to that, clean your child's teeth with water & a soft bristled toothbrush.

How long does the first visit take?

Thumb and pacifier sucking habits that go on for a long period of time can create crowded, crooked teeth or bite problems. However, most children usually quit thumb sucking on their own. If they are still sucking on their thumb when permanent teeth arrive, a mouth appliance may be recommended by the pediatric dentist.

How do you help children who are nervous or anxious?

At Village Kids Dentistry, our pediatric dentists advise that your child have a routine check up every six months. Depending on your child's needs, more frequent visits could be necessary.

When should I start brushing my baby's teeth?

State run programs like Medicaid help families access quality, low cost dental and health care across Fayetteville, NC & beyond. Most Medicaid services cover children under the age of 21. In order to obtain the low cost dental services, you must apply and meet the income qualifications.
